Asking for Google Reviews: Quick Answers
Most owners search this with one specific worry. Here are the direct answers, each explained further down the page.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is it allowed to ask customers for Google reviews? | Yes. Google’s own help centre tells businesses to remind customers to leave reviews with a link or QR code. |
| When should I ask? | Right after the “peak moment”: the meal is finished, the result is explained, the keys are handed over. Send the link within 1–2 hours; one reminder after 3–5 days. |
| Which channel works best in Hyderabad? | A short in-person ask followed by a WhatsApp message with the link. Add a QR on the bill or table as a backup. |
| Where do I get the review link? | Google Business Profile on a computer → Read reviews → Get more reviews → Copy. It opens the review form directly. |
| Can I give a discount or gift for a review? | No. Any incentive, even for an “honest” review, is fake engagement under Google’s policy. |
| Can I ask for a 5-star review? | No. Ask for an honest review. Asking for a rating or specific words influences the review. |
| Can staff ask customers to mention their name? | No. Google does not allow requesting content that identifies a staff member, or setting staff review quotas. |
| Can I ask only happy customers? | No. Selectively asking satisfied customers is review gating and is prohibited. |
| How many reviews do I need? | Enough to match the businesses in the top 3 map results for your main search, then a steady flow every week. Use the calculator below. |
| Which language should the request be in? | The one you spoke with the customer: Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, English or Tenglish. Scripts for all five are below. |
| What if the customer was unhappy? | Fix the problem first, then still invite them to share their experience. You cannot block or discourage negative reviews. |
| What happens if I break the rules? | Google can remove reviews, stop your profile from receiving new ones for a period, and show a public warning that fake reviews were removed. |
Is It Allowed to Ask for Google Reviews? What Google’s Policy Actually Says
Yes, and it’s the only reliable way to get reviews: most happy customers simply don’t think of it unless you ask. Google’s Business Profile help centre lists “remind customers to leave reviews” as its first tip and gives every business a free review link and QR code for exactly this purpose.
What Google restricts is how you ask. Its Maps user-generated content policy allows businesses to solicit reviews that reflect a genuine experience, as long as they don’t offer incentives or try to influence the rating or what the review says. Here is the full picture in one table.
| What you want to do | Status | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ask every customer for an honest review | Allowed | Google explicitly allows soliciting genuine reviews. |
| Share your review link or QR on bills, emails, WhatsApp, in store | Allowed | Listed by Google as recommended places to share the link. |
| Send one polite reminder | Allowed | Fine if it’s not pushy and goes to people who dealt with you. |
| Invite a customer whose complaint you resolved | Allowed | They had a genuine experience; let them describe it honestly. |
| Offer a discount, cashback, free dessert, lucky draw or gift for a review | Not allowed | Incentives in exchange for posting, changing or removing a review are prohibited. |
| Ask only customers who seemed happy (review gating) | Not allowed | Google bans selectively soliciting positive reviews. |
| Ask for “5 stars” or give customers words to use | Not allowed | Merchants must not request specific content or influence the rating. |
| Ask customers to mention a staff member by name | Not allowed | Requests for content that identifies a staff member are named as a violation. |
| Give staff a monthly review quota or target | Not allowed | Asking staff to solicit a certain number of reviews is named as a violation. |
| Make customers review before they leave (tablet at the counter, taking their phone) | Not allowed | Google says not to require or pressure reviews while users are on the premises. |
| Reviews from employees, family, your agency or a competitor | Not allowed | Conflict-of-interest content is removed. |
| Buying reviews or “review packages” | Not allowed | Paid reviews are fake engagement. Google also removes unusual volumes or patterns of reviews. |
What Happens If a Business Breaks These Rules
Google’s Business Profile restriction policy describes three penalties for fake engagement: the profile can be blocked from receiving new reviews for a set period, existing reviews can be unpublished for a set period, and the profile can show a public warning telling customers that fake reviews were removed. For a Hyderabad clinic or restaurant that lives on its Maps listing, any of these costs far more than a slow month of honest reviews.
Popular Advice That Breaks Google’s Current Rules
We read the pages ranking for this keyword before writing ours. Several widely shared tips are now policy violations. If you learned any of these from a blog or a WhatsApp group, stop:
| Advice you’ll still find online | The problem | Do this instead |
|---|---|---|
| “Mention the name of the stylist or doctor who helped you” | Requesting content that identifies staff is not allowed. | Just ask for an honest review. Customers often name staff on their own. |
| “Leave a review and get 10–15% off your next visit” | Any discount tied to a review is an incentive, even if the review can be negative. | Offer nothing. Say thank you and reply to the review. |
| “Segment your list and send review requests only to satisfied customers” | This is review gating. | Send the same request to every customer after every completed job. |
| “Hand them a tablet at the counter so they review before leaving” | Pressuring reviews on the premises is restricted, and many reviews from one device look suspicious. | Ask in person, then send the link so they review on their own phone, later. |
| “Ask for a 5-star review” | Influences the rating. | Ask for their honest experience. |
| “Give each staff member a target of 20 reviews a month” | Staff review quotas are named as a violation. | Track requests sent, not reviews received, when you coach staff. |
What Indian Law Adds on Top of Google’s Policy
- Consumer Protection Act, 2019: fake or misleading reviews can be treated as an unfair trade practice or misleading advertisement, and consumers can complain to the National Consumer Helpline or the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).
- IS 19000:2022 (BIS standard on online consumer reviews): sets principles for collecting and publishing reviews, including not preventing or discouraging negative reviews. It began as a voluntary standard; the government has discussed making compliance mandatory, so treat it as the direction of travel.
- Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and DPDP Rules, 2025: being phased in through 2027. Only message people whose number you collected with their knowledge, say who you are, and honour “please don’t message me”.
- TRAI rules for SMS: business SMS must go through a registered DLT header and template, and since October 2024 links inside SMS must be whitelisted or the message is blocked.
- Healthcare: doctors and clinics must also respect medical advertising rules and patient confidentiality: never mention a patient’s condition in a request or a reply.
Why Asking for Google Reviews Matters for Hyderabad Businesses
Hyderabad buyers check Google before they call. Whether it’s “best biryani near Tolichowki”, “dentist in Kukatpally” or “interior designers in Kokapet”, the first thing they see is the map pack with star ratings and review counts. Reviews affect three things at once:
Map pack and “near me” results
Google says local ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence, and reviews (count and rating) feed prominence. In dense areas like Madhapur or Ameerpet, where ten similar businesses sit within a kilometre, reviews are often what separates the top three from the rest.
The click-or-scroll decision
A 4.6 with 300 recent reviews beats a 4.9 with 12 old ones. Buyers read the latest few reviews and your replies before choosing, especially for doctors, schools and builders where the decision is expensive.
AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT
When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, the answer often summarises what reviewers repeatedly say. Specific, detailed reviews (“the orthodontist explained every step in Telugu”) give AI tools something concrete to cite.
Free, honest research
Reviews show what customers value and what annoys them: parking, waiting time, billing clarity. That makes the next hundred customers happier, which brings better reviews without any tricks.
Recency also matters. A profile whose newest review is five months old looks closed or declining, even with a good average. That’s why the goal is a steady weekly flow of reviews, not a one-time push.
Step 1: Get Your Direct Google Review Link
Every request needs a link that opens the review box directly. Customers who land on your Maps listing and have to hunt for “Write a review” often give up. Google gives you this link free.
On a Computer (Google’s Official Method)
- Open your Business Profile. Sign in with the Google account that manages the listing and search your business name, or go to business.google.com.
- Select Read reviews, then Get more reviews. A box appears with your review link and a QR code.
- Copy the link. It usually looks like
https://g.page/r/…/review. To save the QR code, right-click it and choose Save image as. - Test it on your phone while signed out of the business account. The review form with stars should open straight away.
Using Your Place ID (If You Can’t Access the Profile)
Look up your business in Google’s Place ID Finder (Google Maps Platform), copy the Place ID, and add it to the end of this address: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=. It opens the same review form. This is handy for agencies or for branches where the owner holds the login.
Which Link to Use: A Quick Check
| Link type | What it opens | Use it? |
|---|---|---|
| g.page/r/…/review (from Get more reviews) | Review form directly | Best |
| search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=… | Review form directly | Yes |
| maps.app.goo.gl/… (Share from Maps) | Your listing, not the review form | No, adds a step |
| Shortened link (bit.ly etc.) | Depends | Avoid for SMS (DLT whitelisting) and trust reasons |
Need a printable poster or table tent? Our free Google reviews QR code generator turns this link into print-ready posters in English and Telugu.
Step 2: Decide When to Ask (Timing by Hyderabad Industry)
The best moment is the peak moment: the point where the customer has just received the value they came for and feels it. Ask too early (before the food arrives, before the treatment works) and you get no review or a lukewarm one. Ask too late and they’ve moved on.
A simple rule that works for most businesses: ask in person at the peak moment, send the link on WhatsApp within 1–2 hours, and send one reminder after 3–5 days. Then stop.
| Business type | Peak moment to ask | When to send the link |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants, cafés, bakeries | When the bill is paid and they’re relaxed | Within 1–2 hours (after the lunch crowd reaches their desks in HITEC City) |
| Cloud kitchens, delivery | After the order has been eaten | 60–90 minutes after delivery, via order WhatsApp |
| Clinics, hospitals | When the plan is clear and the patient feels cared for, or at the follow-up | Same day or after the follow-up; never mid-treatment |
| Dental, dermatology, cosmetic | When the result is visible (review visit) | Same day as the review visit |
| Salons, spas | At the mirror when they see the result | Same evening |
| Schools, coaching institutes | After results, a parent-teacher meeting or course completion | Within 2 days; ask parents or adult learners |
| Real estate, builders | At registration or handover, not on booking day | Within a week of handover |
| Interiors, home services, repairs | At handover or job completion | 5–7 days later, once they’ve lived with it |
| Car service, bike showrooms | At vehicle delivery | 1–2 days later, after they’ve driven it |
| Retail, jewellery, sarees | At billing, or at pick-up after alteration | Same day |
| Hotels, PGs, co-living | At checkout (PGs: after the first month) | Same day |
| IT, B2B, agencies (Madhapur, Gachibowli) | After a milestone or go-live | Email to the decision-maker within a week |
| Gyms, fitness studios | After 30 days or a visible milestone | Same week |
How Often Can You Follow Up?
One reminder is enough. A second message starts to feel like pressure, and people who didn’t want to review won’t change their mind; they’ll just remember you as the business that kept messaging. Always add a line like “if you’ve already posted, thank you, please ignore this” so people who reviewed don’t feel chased.
Step 3: Choose the Right Channel for Each Customer
In Hyderabad, WhatsApp does most of the work, but the best results come from combining a human ask with a message that carries the link.
| Channel | Best for | Cost | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-person ask + WhatsApp link | Walk-in businesses: restaurants, clinics, salons, retail | Free | Ask, don’t pressure. Let them review later on their own phone. |
| WhatsApp Business app | Small businesses sending a few requests a day | Free | Only message people who contacted you or agreed to messages. No bulk broadcasts to strangers. |
| WhatsApp Business API | Higher volume, automated sends from POS, CRM or booking systems | Meta per-message rate + GST + provider fee | Needs an approved template. Meta decides the category. |
| SMS | Customers without WhatsApp, older customers | Paise per SMS through a DLT-registered provider | DLT header and template; the link must be whitelisted. |
| B2B clients, e-commerce orders, bookings | Low | Clear subject line, one link, one reminder. | |
| QR on bill, table tent, standee | Restaurants, clinics, salons, retail counters | ₹150–₹600 to print (varies) | No incentive text on the poster. |
| Thank-you page, order confirmation, email signature | E-commerce, service bookings, B2B | Free | Easy to set up once and forget. |
Asking in Person Without Pressure
A real person asking is the single biggest driver of reviews, because it shows the business cares. Keep it to two sentences, explain why it helps (“it helps other people find us”), and hand over the next step: “I’ll send the link on WhatsApp.” Don’t stand over the customer, don’t ask for their phone, and don’t keep a counter tablet for reviews. Google specifically says merchants shouldn’t require or pressure reviews on the premises.
Asking on WhatsApp
WhatsApp Business App (Free)
Perfect for most small Hyderabad businesses. Save your review request as a quick reply (for example, type /review) so every staff member sends the same approved wording. Send it one-to-one to customers who have messaged you or given their number for updates. Don’t forward it to groups or use unofficial bulk-sending tools: they risk getting your number banned.
WhatsApp Business API (Automated)
If you send more than a few dozen requests a day, or want the message to fire automatically when a bill is closed or an appointment marked complete, use the WhatsApp Business Platform through a provider. The message must use a Meta-approved template.
Template Category and Cost
Meta, not you, decides the template category. Review and feedback requests sent proactively are usually classed as Marketing; a request clearly tied to a specific completed order or appointment can sometimes qualify as Utility, which is cheaper. If the customer messaged you in the last 24 hours, you can reply inside that service window without a template.
Current Meta India Rates (Check on the Day You Set Up)
When we checked in September 2026, Meta’s India rate card was about ₹0.86 per marketing message and about ₹0.12 per utility message, plus 18% GST, before your provider’s fee. Meta revises rates periodically, so confirm the current card with your provider. Our WhatsApp marketing services page explains templates, limits and costs in detail.
Asking by SMS (TRAI DLT Rules)
SMS still works for customers who don’t use WhatsApp. Register your sender header and message template on a DLT platform through your SMS provider, and get your review link whitelisted: messages with non-whitelisted links are blocked. Keep English SMS under 160 characters (one part). Telugu, Hindi and Urdu use Unicode, where one part is only 70 characters, so keep them very short or use WhatsApp instead. The builder below counts this for you.
Asking by Email
Best for B2B clients, online orders and booked services. Use a plain subject line (“How was your experience with us?”), one short paragraph, one link and your name. Send from a real person’s address rather than “noreply”, so customers can answer if something went wrong.
Step 4: What to Say, Copy-Paste Review Request Scripts
Every script below follows the same compliant pattern: thank them, ask for an honest review, say why it helps, give the link, make it optional. No incentive, no rating, no instructions about what to write. Replace the words in [brackets].
English Scripts
In person, at the counter or chair
WhatsApp message
SMS (under 160 characters)
B2B client after a project milestone
One reminder, 3–5 days later
Telugu Scripts (తెలుగు)
WhatsApp message
In person
Hindi Scripts (हिन्दी)
WhatsApp message
Urdu Script (اردو)
WhatsApp message
Tenglish Script (Telugu in English Letters)
WhatsApp message
Free Review Request Message Builder (English, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, Tenglish)
Fill in your business, choose a channel and language, and paste your review link. The builder writes a compliant message, checks your link type, counts SMS parts, and flags risky wording such as discounts, “5 stars”, or instructions about what to write, even after you edit the text yourself.
Review Request Message Builder
Pick a channel and language, paste your review link, then copy or send. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is saved.
How to Use the Builder Well
- Save the final message as a WhatsApp quick reply or an approved API template so every staff member sends the same compliant wording.
- Tick the sensitive-service box for clinics, hospitals, diagnostic labs and legal services, so the message never mentions why the person visited.
- If the builder flags something, rewrite that part. The check looks for common patterns only; it can’t judge everything, so read the policy table above once.
Asking for Google Reviews by Industry in Hyderabad
The basics are the same everywhere, but the right moment, the right words and the risks differ by business. Here’s what we recommend for the industries we work with most across Hyderabad.
Restaurants, Cafés and Cloud Kitchens
Ask when the bill is settled; put a small QR on the bill folder and table tent; send the WhatsApp link after lunch or dinner. Cloud kitchens can send the link in the order-delivered WhatsApp message 60–90 minutes later. Aggregator ratings on Zomato and Swiggy are separate; your Google profile is what shows on Maps for “restaurants near me”. Avoid: “free dessert for a review” cards, which are common in Hyderabad and clearly prohibited. More in our restaurant marketing guide.
Hospitals, Clinics and Diagnostic Centres
Ask at discharge or the follow-up visit, when the patient has a clear outcome. Never mention the condition, test or treatment in the request or your reply: patient confidentiality comes first. Don’t ask during pain or waiting, and don’t put a review tablet at the reception desk. Replies to negative reviews should move the conversation offline without confirming the person was a patient. See our healthcare marketing page for compliance details.
Dental, Dermatology and Cosmetic Clinics
The result visit is the moment: the aligners fit, the skin has cleared, the smile is finished. Before-and-after photos have their own advertising rules; keep review requests plain and never suggest what to write about the procedure.
Schools, Coaching Institutes and Training Centres
Ask parents or adult learners, not minors. The best moments are results day, a parent-teacher meeting or course completion. Institutes in Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar and KPHB compete on reviews; a steady flow from each batch beats a burst after results.
Real Estate Builders and Brokers
Ask after registration or handover, when the buyer has experienced the whole process, not on booking day when they’ve only seen the sales team. Site-visit reviews from people who didn’t buy are genuine experiences too; you may invite them, but never gate. Keep promises out of replies; RERA disclosure rules apply to your marketing.
Salons, Spas and Fitness Studios
Ask at the mirror moment and send the link the same evening. Stylist-name mentions and staff review targets are specifically not allowed, even though they’re common in salons. Coach staff on asking every client, and track requests, not reviews.
Car Service, Home Services and Repairs
Wait until the customer has used the result: a day or two of driving, a week in the renovated kitchen. For field technicians, have the office send the link after job closure rather than the technician asking at the door.
Retail, Jewellery and Saree Stores (Begum Bazaar, Abids, Kukatpally)
Print the QR on the bill and ask at billing; for alterations and custom orders, ask at pick-up. For high-value jewellery purchases, a personal WhatsApp from the owner works better than a printed card.
IT Services, Agencies and B2B Firms (HITEC City, Gachibowli, Financial District)
Ask the decision-maker by email after a milestone or go-live, with a personal line about the project. Clutch or G2 may matter too, but a Google profile with specific client reviews helps local enterprise buyers and AI assistants recognise you.
How Many Google Reviews Do You Need? Set a Target
There’s no magic number. The useful target is local: match the businesses already in the top three map results for your main search, then keep a steady weekly flow. A dentist in a quiet part of Kompally may need 60; a biryani restaurant in Madhapur may be up against thousands.
Review Gap Calculator
Search your main keyword on Google Maps (for example "dentist in Kukatpally"), note the review counts of the top three businesses, and fill in your numbers.
Why a Steady Pace Beats a Big Push
Google’s policy says it removes content showing “unusual volumes or patterns” of reviews that suggest rating manipulation. Fifty reviews in one weekend after months of silence is exactly that pattern, even if every review is real. A steady flow also keeps your profile looking current, which is what buyers notice first.
Build a Review Request System, Not a One-Off Push
Businesses with hundreds of reviews rarely ran a campaign. They built asking into the daily routine. Here is the seven-step system we set up for clients:
- Fix the profile basics first. Correct primary category, hours, phone, photos and a description. People who click the review link also see your profile.
- Get the direct link and QR once and store them where every staff member can reach them.
- Choose one trigger moment per service: bill paid, appointment completed, job closed, order delivered.
- Approve one script per channel and language using the builder above.
- Train staff to ask every customer, with no quotas and no staff-name requests. Reward consistent asking, not review counts.
- Automate the send from your POS, booking system, CRM or WhatsApp API where possible, so no customer is skipped.
- Reply to every review within two working days and look at the numbers once a month.
What to Track Every Month
| Metric | How to measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Requests sent | Count from WhatsApp, SMS or email logs | The only number staff fully control |
| Ask-to-review rate | New reviews ÷ requests sent | Shows whether timing and wording work |
| New reviews per month | Business Profile → Reviews | Steady flow beats spikes |
| Rating over the last 90 days | Average of recent reviews only | Tells you if service is improving or slipping |
| Reply time | Days from review to your reply | Buyers read replies, especially to complaints |
| Days since last review | Check the newest review date | A stale profile looks inactive |
| Map ranking for your main search | Search from a few nearby localities, signed out | The business outcome reviews should move |
Automation: What to Automate and What Not To
Automate the send: the trigger, the timing and the reminder. Tools such as your POS, Zoho, LeadSquared, HubSpot, Shopify or a WhatsApp API provider can do this. Don’t automate anything that filters customers by satisfaction before sending the Google link (for example, “rate us 1–5; if 4 or 5, we send the Google link”). That’s review gating, even when software does it for you. You can still collect private feedback, as long as everyone gets the same Google invitation.
What to Do After Customers Leave Reviews
Reply to Every Review, Briefly and Personally
Google advises replies that are short, personal, polite and not promotional. Thank people by name, mention something specific, and never offer a deal in a reply.
If a Customer Was Unhappy
Listen, fix what you can, and follow up. Then treat them like everyone else: they get the same invitation to share their experience. Many people update a review after a problem is genuinely resolved, but you can’t ask them to change or remove it in exchange for a refund or anything else; that counts as an incentive too.
Customer Says They Posted, But the Review Isn’t Showing
Common reasons: Google’s spam filters held it (new accounts, reviews posted from your shop Wi-Fi, several reviews from one device), it’s delayed while being checked, or the customer posted on a different listing (duplicate profiles are common for Hyderabad businesses that moved). Ask customers to review from their own phone and mobile data, and check you have only one verified profile. Google’s help centre has a page on missing or delayed reviews if you need to escalate.
Fake Reviews or Review Extortion
Flag reviews that break Google’s policies (fake, off-topic, conflict of interest) from your Business Profile. If someone threatens bad reviews unless you pay, Google now has a dedicated way to report negative-review extortion scams from the Business Profile help centre. Never answer threats with money, and never buy positive reviews to “balance” fake negatives.
12 Mistakes Hyderabad Businesses Make When Asking for Google Reviews
- Offering a discount, free item or lucky draw for a review.
- Asking only customers who looked happy.
- Asking for “5 stars” or writing the review for the customer.
- Asking customers to mention a staff member, and setting staff review targets.
- Keeping a tablet at the counter for reviews, or taking the customer’s phone.
- Sending a Maps share link instead of the direct review link.
- Asking before the customer got value (before the food, before the result).
- Sending three or four reminders.
- Bulk-broadcasting the link to every contact or WhatsApp group, including people who never bought.
- Getting reviews from family, staff or your agency.
- Mentioning a patient’s treatment in a request or a reply.
- Pushing hard for one month, then stopping for six.
Should You Do It Yourself, Use Software or Hire an Agency?
| Option | Good for | Typical cost | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself | Owner-run shops, clinics and restaurants with one location | Free (your time) | Consistency drops when you get busy. |
| Review software / WhatsApp API tools | Businesses with POS, booking or CRM data and higher volumes | Monthly subscription + message charges | Switch off any “only send happy customers to Google” feature. |
| Agency set-up | Owners who want the system built once, correctly | One-time fee | Ask exactly what’s included and who owns the accounts. |
| Agency management | Multi-branch businesses, healthcare, real estate | Monthly fee | Refuse anyone who sells “guaranteed reviews” or review packages. |

Asking for Google Reviews: Frequently Asked Questions
Is asking for Google reviews allowed?
Yes. Google encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews and provides a free review link and QR code for it. What isn’t allowed is offering incentives, asking only happy customers, asking for a specific rating or content, setting staff review quotas, or pressuring customers to review on your premises.
How do I politely ask a customer for a Google review?
Thank them, ask for an honest review, say briefly why it helps (“it helps other people find us”), and make it optional. For example: “Thank you for coming in today. If you have a minute later, we’d value an honest Google review. I’ll send you the link on WhatsApp.”
What should I write in a WhatsApp message asking for a Google review?
Keep it to four parts: greeting with their name, thanks for choosing your business, a request for their honest experience with one line on why it helps, and your direct review link. Avoid discounts, star ratings and instructions about what to write. Use the free builder on this page to create it in English, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu or Tenglish.
How do I get my Google review link?
On a computer, open your Google Business Profile, select Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link (it usually starts with g.page/r/). Google currently generates the review QR code only on a computer browser. You can also build a link from your Place ID: search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= followed by the ID.
Can I offer a discount or gift in exchange for a Google review?
No. Google treats any incentive, including discounts, free items, cashback or lucky draws, as fake engagement, even if the customer is free to write a negative review. Reviews obtained this way can be removed and your profile can be restricted.
Can I ask customers for a 5-star review?
No. Asking for a specific rating influences the review, which Google does not allow. Ask for an honest review instead; happy customers will rate you well on their own.
Can my staff ask customers to mention their name in the review?
No. Google’s policy says merchants should not request specific content, including content that identifies a staff member, and should not ask staff to collect a set number of reviews. Customers may still mention staff on their own.
Is it okay to ask only happy customers for reviews?
No. Selectively asking satisfied customers is called review gating and is prohibited by Google. Send the same invitation to every customer. You can collect private feedback too, as long as everyone gets the Google link.
When is the best time to ask for a Google review?
Right after the customer has received what they came for: the meal is finished, the treatment result is explained, the job is handed over. Send the link within one to two hours, and at most one reminder three to five days later.
How many times can I remind a customer to leave a review?
Once. A single polite reminder after three to five days is reasonable. More than that feels like pressure and rarely changes the outcome.
Why does a customer’s review not show on my profile?
Google may be checking it, or its spam filters may have held it, for example if it was posted from your shop Wi-Fi, from a new account, or alongside several reviews from the same device. It may also have gone to a duplicate listing. Ask customers to review from their own phone on mobile data.
Can I ask for Google reviews in Telugu, Hindi or Urdu?
Yes. Ask in the language you spoke with the customer; customers can write reviews in any language. This page includes ready-made scripts in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu and Tenglish, and the builder produces them automatically.
Can I send review requests to all my WhatsApp contacts?
No. Send requests only to people who actually used your business, one-to-one or through an approved WhatsApp API template to opted-in customers. Broadcasting to everyone invites reviews from people with no genuine experience and risks your WhatsApp number being restricted.
Do I need DLT registration to ask for reviews by SMS in India?
Yes. Business SMS in India must use a DLT-registered sender header and message template, and links inside the SMS must be whitelisted, or the message can be blocked. WhatsApp is usually simpler for review requests.
Can doctors and clinics in Hyderabad ask patients for Google reviews?
Yes, as long as the request is neutral and never mentions the patient’s condition or treatment, no incentive is offered, and every patient is invited equally. Replies must also protect confidentiality. Medical advertising rules still apply to your wider marketing.

How We Researched This Page
On 29 September 2026 we analysed the Google results for “asking for google reviews” in Hyderabad (via Ubersuggest) and read every page in the top ten. We then checked each recommendation against Google’s current Business Profile help pages and Maps user-generated content policy, and against Indian rules on consumer reviews, SMS and data protection. Where a popular tip conflicts with Google’s policy, we say so. We’ll re-check this page every quarter.
