ToggleGoogle Reviews for Hotels in Hyderabad: How They Work, How to Get More and How to Reply (2026 Guide)
Quick answer: Google reviews for hotels are 1–5 star ratings and comments that guests post on a hotel’s Google Business Profile. They appear on Google Search, Maps and Google Hotels, and they decide which Hyderabad hotels make a guest’s shortlist. To get more, ask every guest within 24 hours of checkout through WhatsApp, email or an in-room QR card, reply to every review, and never offer a discount, free stay or gift in return. Buying reviews breaks Google policy and Indian consumer law.
This guide is written for hotel owners, general managers and front-office teams in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, from business hotels in HITEC City and Gachibowli to heritage stays near Charminar, airport hotels at Shamshabad and budget lodges near Secunderabad and Nampally stations. A short section at the end helps travellers read hotel reviews and avoid review-task scams.

How Google Reviews for Hotels Work
Hotels are handled differently from shops and clinics on Google. A traveller searching “hotels in Gachibowli” sees a hotel list with prices, a rating, a review count and sometimes a short summary of what guests liked. Behind that snippet are four separate pieces.
1. Google user reviews on your Business Profile
Guests signed in to a Google account rate your hotel from 1 to 5 stars and can add text, photos and optional ratings for rooms, service and location, plus trip type (business, family, couple, solo). These reviews are public, carry the reviewer’s name, and you can reply to each one from your Google Business Profile.
2. Review summaries from partner sites
For some hotel listings, Google says it uses review summaries from TrustYou, a third-party service that aggregates guest feedback from across the web. That is why the picture a guest sees in Google Hotels can reflect your OTA reviews (Booking.com, Agoda, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo) as well as Google reviews. Your own Business Profile average still counts only Google user ratings.
3. Hotel class rating (not a review)
The 1–5 star class rating describes the property tier. Google builds it from third-party partners, its own research, hotelier feedback and machine learning that looks at price, location, room size and amenities. It sits next to the review rating, but guest reviews do not change it. If yours looks wrong, contact Google Business Profile support.
4. Highlights Google pulls from review text
Google reads what guests write and surfaces themes such as “clean rooms”, “close to the airport” or “good breakfast”. You cannot edit these highlights. The only way to change them is to fix the experience and get more recent reviews that describe it.
Where hotel reviews show up
| Surface | What guests see | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search hotel pack | Price, rating, review count, photo | First shortlist for “hotels near HITEC City”-type searches |
| Google Maps | Pin, rating, reviews, directions | Airport arrivals and walk-in guests search here |
| Google Hotels (google.com/travel) | Rates from OTAs and your site, reviews, amenities | Free booking links can send direct, commission-free bookings |
| AI Overviews and AI Mode | Short recommendation with reasons | Review themes shape how AI describes your hotel |
| Your own website | Embedded Google reviews | Social proof next to your Book Now button |
Why Google Reviews Matter More for Hyderabad Hotels
Hyderabad has several very different hotel markets inside one city, and each guest type reads reviews for different things. A hotel that knows what its guests check can ask for reviews at the right moment and fix the issues that cost it bookings.
| Hyderabad hotel segment | Typical guest | What they look for in reviews |
|---|---|---|
| HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Financial District, Kondapur | IT and corporate travellers, long stays | Wi-Fi speed, work desk, breakfast timing, commute, invoicing |
| Shamshabad / RGIA airport belt | Transit and early-flight guests | Airport shuttle, 24-hour check-in, noise, short-stay value |
| Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Somajiguda | Business, luxury and medical travellers | Service, cleanliness, distance to hospitals and offices |
| Charminar, Old City, Abids, Koti | Tourists and pilgrims | Location, safety, family rooms, food, parking |
| Secunderabad, Nampally, Kacheguda, Ameerpet | Budget and railway travellers | Price for value, hygiene, hot water, check-in ID policy |
| Wedding and banquet hotels, resorts on city edges | Families, event guests | Hall upkeep, catering, parking, room blocks, staff behaviour |
Reviews decide the shortlist before price does
In BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey, 97% of consumers said they read reviews for local businesses, 41% said they always read them, 31% will only use a business rated 4.5 stars or higher and 47% won’t use one with fewer than 20 reviews. For a hotel, that means a thin or old review profile can drop you from a shortlist before a guest compares rates.
Reviews help you rank in the local hotel pack
Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and review count and rating feed prominence. Guests also mention landmarks and needs in their text (“5 minutes from Mindspace”, “near KIMS”, “walk to Charminar”), which helps Google match your hotel to those searches.
Reviews lower your OTA dependence
A strong Google profile with free booking links gives guests a way to book you directly. Every direct booking avoids an OTA commission, so review work pays back in margin, not just reputation.
What a Hotel Can and Can't Control on Google
Most frustration with Google hotel reviews comes from trying to change things Google does not let owners change. Spend your time on the left column.
| Item | In your control? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Business Profile details, photos, amenities | Yes | Complete and update every quarter |
| How many guests you ask for a review | Yes | Ask every guest, every stay |
| Replies to reviews | Yes | Reply to all within 48 hours |
| Reporting policy-breaking reviews | Yes | Report with evidence, then escalate |
| Reviews shown on your website | Yes | Embed real Google reviews near Book Now |
| Deleting a genuine negative review | No | Reply, fix, and earn newer reviews |
| Partner review summaries and highlights | No | Improve OTA and Google reviews together |
| Hotel class rating | No | Request a correction through support if wrong |
Google Review Rules for Hotels and Indian Law
Several tactics still common in Hyderabad hotels break Google’s Maps user-generated content policy. Breaking them can get reviews removed, new reviews blocked or a public warning placed on your profile.
| Practice | Allowed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Post-stay WhatsApp, SMS or email with your review link to every guest | Allowed | Neutral request to all guests |
| QR card in rooms, checkout folder or bill | Allowed | Same link for everyone, no reward |
| Front desk mentioning reviews once at checkout | Allowed | No pressure, no device handed over |
| Discount, free breakfast, upgrade or points for a review | Not allowed | Incentive |
| Asking for 5 stars, or only asking happy guests | Not allowed | Selective solicitation (review gating) |
| Feedback form that sends only high scores to Google | Not allowed | Review gating by software |
| Guests writing reviews on a lobby tablet or staff phone | Not allowed | On-premises pressure; also looks like fake engagement |
| Staff review quotas or asking guests to name a staff member | Not allowed | Pressure and requested content |
| Owners, staff or relatives reviewing the hotel | Not allowed | Conflict of interest |
| Buying reviews or using “review packages” | Not allowed | Fake engagement; also a consumer-law risk |
The Indian legal layer
Fake and paid reviews are not only a Google problem. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, misleading reviews can be treated as an unfair trade practice, and complaints can go to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), the National Consumer Helpline or consumer commissions. The Bureau of Indian Standards published IS 19000:2022 on how online consumer reviews should be collected, moderated and published; government proposals to make it mandatory require identifiable authors, bar editing reviews to change their message and prohibit discouraging negative reviews. Collecting guest phone numbers and emails for review requests also falls under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, so tell guests how you will use their contact details. This is general information, not legal advice.
How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Hotel in Hyderabad
The hotels with the strongest profiles do not run one-off review drives. They build a small system that asks every guest the same way, at the right time, and they watch the results monthly. Here is that system in seven steps.
Step 1: Get your direct Google review link
In your Google Business Profile, open Ask for reviews (or Get more reviews) and copy the link, or build one from your Place ID in the form https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_PLACE_ID. Test it on a phone that is logged in to a normal Google account; it should open the star box directly. Our free Google reviews QR code generator checks the link and makes print-ready room cards.
Step 2: Ask at the right time for each guest type
| Guest type | Best time to ask | Best channel |
|---|---|---|
| Corporate / IT traveller | Evening of checkout day | WhatsApp or email with the invoice |
| Airport transit guest | 2–4 hours after checkout (after the flight) | |
| Family or tourist | Next morning | |
| Wedding or event guest | 1–2 days after the event | WhatsApp to each room guest, not only the host |
| Medical traveller or attendant | After they have left, gently, once | SMS or WhatsApp, no mention of treatment |
| Long-stay guest (7+ nights) | At checkout and once afterwards | In person, then WhatsApp |
Step 3: Choose your channels
WhatsApp (best reply rates in Hyderabad)
Most Hyderabad guests read WhatsApp within minutes. A one-to-one message from the WhatsApp Business app works for small hotels. Larger hotels sending hundreds of messages a week should use the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) through a provider, with approved message templates.
Which WhatsApp template category to use
A post-stay review request is usually approved as a marketing template, because it asks the guest to do something that is not part of their booking. Checkout confirmations and invoices are utility. Add the review link as a button, keep one short question, and include an opt-out line.
Cost note
Meta charges per template message and the rates differ by category and change over time, so check the current India rate card with your provider before budgeting. For most small hotels, a review request costs far less than one OTA commission.
Send it with the e-invoice for corporate guests. Subject line example: “How was your stay at {Hotel}?” One button, no rating scale inside the email that filters guests.
SMS
SMS in India needs a registered DLT header and template, and URLs must be whitelisted with your operator. Telugu and Hindi SMS use more characters per part, so keep them short.
In-room QR card and checkout folder
Place a small card on the desk or bedside with one line (“Tell future guests about your stay”), the QR code and the hotel name. Add the same QR to the bill folder. Do not offer anything for scanning it.
Step 4: Train the front desk in one sentence
“We’d really value your honest review on Google. We’ll send you the link on WhatsApp.” Said once, to every guest, then dropped. No tablets, no “5 stars please”, no names.
Step 5: Fix what reviews tell you
Tag every 1–3 star review by theme (AC, hot water, housekeeping, noise, Wi-Fi, check-in delay, ID policy, parking, food). Review the top three themes in your monthly operations meeting. Fixing them is what raises the rating over time.
Step 6: Reply to every review
Replies show future guests how you handle problems. Templates are in the reply section below.
Step 7: Track a few numbers monthly
| Metric | How to measure | Healthy sign |
|---|---|---|
| New Google reviews per month | Business Profile performance / review count | Steady every month, no spikes |
| Ask-to-review rate | Reviews ÷ guests asked | Improving as timing improves |
| Average rating (last 90 days) | Rating of recent reviews only | At or above your target |
| Reply rate and time | Reviews replied ÷ total; hours to reply | 100%, under 48 hours |
| Top complaint themes | Tagged 1–3 star reviews | Shrinking month on month |
| Direct bookings from Google | Free booking link clicks, calls, website bookings | Rising share of total bookings |
Google Review Request Messages for Hotels (English, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu)
Copy, replace the {braces}, and send to every guest. None of these ask for 5 stars, mention a reward or tell the guest what to write.

How to Reply to Google Reviews for Hotels (With Templates)
Write replies for the next guest reading them, not only the reviewer. Keep them short, specific and signed by a real person. Use the guest’s first name only and never share booking details, room numbers or ID information.
Reply to a 5-star review
Reply to a mixed 3-star review
Reply to a 1-star complaint
Reply to a review about check-in ID policy
ID and check-in policy complaints are common in Hyderabad. Explain the rule calmly, without blaming the guest, and point to where it is stated before booking.
Reply rules that protect you
- Reply within 24–48 hours; the first reply is what future guests read.
- Name the fix, not just the apology.
- Move details offline with a named contact.
- Do not argue, accuse the guest of lying or reveal personal or medical details.
- Do not paste the same reply on every review; vary it to the stay described.
- Reply in the language the guest used (English, Telugu, Hindi or Urdu) when you can.
Negative, Fake and Extortion Reviews: What Hotels Can Do
When Google will remove a review
Google removes reviews that break its policy: fake or spam reviews, conflict of interest (for example, a competitor), off-topic content, hate or harassment, and personal information. A genuine bad experience, even a harsh one, stays up.
How to report a hotel review
- Open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps and go to Reviews.
- Click the three dots next to the review and choose Report review.
- Pick the policy reason that fits and submit.
- Track the request in Google’s Reviews Management Tool; if rejected, you can appeal once with evidence.
- Reply publicly and calmly while you wait, without accusing the reviewer.
Review extortion
If someone posts or threatens 1-star reviews and asks for money, a free stay or a refund to remove them, do not pay. Keep screenshots, report the reviews to Google as extortion through Business Profile support, and file a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or helpline 1930.
A sudden wave of 1-star reviews
Bursts can follow a viral social post or a local dispute. Google may temporarily limit new reviews on profiles facing off-topic spikes. Report them, post one clear public reply, and keep asking real guests as usual.
Google Business Profile Checklist for Hyderabad Hotels
Reviews work better on a complete profile. Run this checklist once, then every quarter.

Hotel Review Gap Calculator
How many new reviews would it take to lift your Google rating? Enter your numbers.
Assumes every new review is 5 stars, which is the fastest possible case. Real results take longer. Google rounds displayed ratings, so treat this as a planning estimate.
How the calculation works
Your average is total stars divided by total reviews. To reach a target rating T from rating R with N reviews, you need x new 5-star reviews where (R×N + 5x) ÷ (N + x) = T, so x = N×(T − R) ÷ (5 − T). Example: a Gachibowli hotel at 4.1 with 180 reviews needs 180×0.3 ÷ 0.6 = 90 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.4.
Google Reviews, AI Overviews and ChatGPT: Why Review Text Now Matters
When a traveller asks Google’s AI Mode, ChatGPT or Perplexity for “a quiet hotel near Hyderabad airport with a shuttle”, the answer leans on listing data and what reviews say. Hotels with many recent reviews that mention specific things (shuttle timing, quiet rooms, the walk to Mindspace) are easier for these systems to recommend with confidence.
- Keep amenities, check-in times and policies identical on Google, your website and OTAs.
- Ask for reviews from every guest so the text covers the real range of stays.
- Never ask guests to use keywords; Google treats requested content as a policy issue.
- Answer common questions on your website in plain sentences that AI tools can quote.
- Reply to reviews with specific facts (“our shuttle runs every 30 minutes from 5 am”).
For Travellers: How to Read Google Reviews for Hotels in Hyderabad
Signs a hotel's reviews are genuine
- Sort by Newest; recent stays matter more than a five-year average.
- Read the 3 and 4 star reviews; they are usually the most specific.
- Tap reviewer names; genuine reviewers often have other reviews and photos.
- Watch for bursts of short 5-star reviews on the same few dates.
- Compare with OTA reviews, which usually come from verified bookings.
- Read how the hotel replies to complaints.
Warning: "Google hotel review" jobs are a scam
Messages offering ₹100–₹500 per task to rate hotels on Google, usually moved to Telegram, are a common cyber fraud in India. They pay small amounts first, then ask for “task upgrade” deposits and disappear. Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered cases over task-rating schemes run through Telegram. Never pay to “unlock” earnings. Report it on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
DIY, Review Software or an Agency: What Suits Your Hotel?
| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| DIY (front desk + WhatsApp) | Lodges and small hotels under 30 rooms | Stops when the team gets busy; no tracking |
| Review software / guest messaging | Mid-size and chain hotels | Features that filter unhappy guests are gating; switch them off |
| Agency (managed) | Owners without time; multi-property groups | Any promise of a fixed number of 5-star reviews is a red flag |

Frequently Asked Questions About Google Reviews for Hotels
How do Google reviews for hotels work?
Guests who stayed at or visited your hotel rate it from 1 to 5 stars on your Google Business Profile and can add text, photos and ratings for rooms, service and location. Google shows the average on Search, Maps and Google Hotels. For some hotels Google also shows review summaries from partners such as TrustYou, and a separate 1–5 star hotel class rating that describes the property type, not guest opinion.
How can a hotel in Hyderabad get more Google reviews?
Ask every guest, not only happy ones, within 24 hours of checkout. Send your Google review link on WhatsApp or email, put a QR card in rooms and at the checkout folder, and have staff mention it once without pressure. Reply to every review. Offer no discount, free night or gift in return.
Is it legal to buy Google reviews for a hotel in India?
No. Buying or writing fake reviews breaks Google’s fake engagement policy and can get reviews removed, new reviews blocked or a warning shown on your profile. In India, fake or paid reviews can also count as an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, and IS 19000:2022 sets rules for how reviews are collected and published.
Can I offer a discount or free breakfast for a Google review?
No. Google prohibits incentives of any kind for posting, changing or removing a review, including discounts, upgrades, free meals and loyalty points. You can still offer those perks to all guests, as long as they are not tied to a review.
Can a hotel delete a bad Google review?
No. A hotel cannot delete a review. You can report a review that breaks Google policy (fake, spam, conflict of interest, off-topic, hateful or personal information) through your Business Profile, and Google decides. Genuine criticism stays, so a calm public reply is the better fix.
How should a hotel reply to a negative Google review?
Reply within 24 to 48 hours. Thank the guest, apologise for the specific issue, say what you fixed, and give a named contact to continue offline. Do not argue, share booking details or reveal the guest’s personal information.
What is the difference between hotel star rating and Google review rating?
The review rating is the average of guest ratings. The hotel class rating (1 to 5 stars) is Google’s estimate of the property tier, built from partner data, research, hotelier feedback and machine learning. They are shown separately and one does not change the other.
Why is my hotel's Google rating different from Booking.com or MakeMyTrip?
Each platform counts only its own reviews and uses its own scale and rules. Google uses a 5-star average, Booking.com a 10-point score, and OTAs usually allow reviews only from verified bookings. The numbers rarely match, so manage each one separately.
How many Google reviews does a hotel need?
There is no fixed number. What matters is your count and rating compared with the hotels you compete with in the same area, plus a steady flow of recent reviews. Use the calculator on this page to see how many new reviews close the gap to your target rating.
How long does a Google review take to appear?
Most appear within minutes. Some are held for automated checks and can take several days or longer. A review posted from hotel Wi-Fi or a shared device, or several reviews in a short burst, is more likely to be held or filtered.
Do Google reviews help a hotel rank on Google Maps?
Yes. Review count, rating and recency are part of the prominence signal Google uses for local results, alongside relevance and distance. They also affect whether guests click your listing and whether AI answers mention your hotel.
Is a QR code in hotel rooms allowed for Google reviews?
Yes. A QR code or link that opens your review form is allowed when it goes to every guest and carries no reward. Do not use a QR that first asks guests to rate you and sends only happy guests to Google, because that is review gating.
Can hotel staff ask guests for Google reviews at checkout?
Staff can mention it once, politely, to every guest. They should not ask guests to review on a hotel device, stand over them while they write, ask for 5 stars or ask guests to name a staff member. Do not set staff review quotas.
Are Google hotel review tasks on Telegram a real job?
No. Offers to pay you for rating hotels on Google through Telegram or WhatsApp are a known cyber fraud in India. They pay small amounts first and then ask for deposits. Do not pay. Report it on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
How do I check if Google reviews of a Hyderabad hotel are genuine?
Sort by newest, read the 3 and 4 star reviews, check whether reviewers have other reviews and photos, look for bursts of short 5-star reviews on the same dates, and compare with OTA reviews from verified stays. Read how the hotel replies to complaints.
How much does Google review management cost in Hyderabad?
It depends on the number of properties and channels. Digital Masters 360 offers a free review audit, a one-time Review Growth Setup from ₹7,999 and Managed Reviews from ₹4,999 per month. Avoid any vendor that promises a fixed number of 5-star reviews.
